SUMMARY

Streator Onized Credit Union (SOCU), a community credit union organized in 1939, was operating one of their branch offices in a 600 square foot space and, needless to say, experiencing growing pains. The site was difficult to access, did not offer a drive up, and was overall extremely inconvenient. It impeded SOCU’s CEO Kathy Lucas’ vision; a desire to complement their brand, extend their commitment to the community and provide a much higher degree of service to the growing Pontiac membership.

La Macchia Group identified a convenient site within the Pontiac market that allowed for the construction of a new 4,000 square foot facility while providing opportunities for further growth.

La Macchia Group designed the new branch facility to complement SOCU’s brand,  future vision and desire to keep ties within the community. La Macchia Group’s Branding Team created the branded image wall of the local courthouse to tie the facility back to the community’s roots. The complementary colors of blue and orange are also the local high school’s team colors – The Pontiac Indians. The building was designed with a contemporary internally illuminated halo that not only demands attention, but also enhances the visibility of the Credit Union against the night’s sky. Walk in the door and members experience a lobby with an abundance of natural light featuring a variety of innovative service offerings; two plasma screens running community news and promotional offerings, and two internet stations. Upon entering the lobby members experience the aroma of fresh coffee brewing and enjoy comfortable seating. The combination of brick work and stucco complement the surrounding retail district while creating a warm and inviting exterior.

Building a Success Story

The first month of opening the new Pontiac Branch the Credit Union opened nearly 50 new accounts! “La Macchia Group not only knows how to get the job done right…they know how to go above and beyond! I was extremely satisfied with the construction of this building and the project superintendent. His knowledge and abilities vastly exceeded my expectations,” says Kathy Lucas, CEO of SOCU.

Credit Union National Association named Streator Onized the Credit Union of the Year in the under $250 million assets category out of more than 6,600 possible credit unions in the United States. Congratulations Kathy!
